Archaeology Dissertation on Edinburgh City Poorhouse

Joanna Dawson, an archaeology graduate from Glasgow University, has done her dissertation on the pottery from middens from Edinburgh City Poorhouse at Craiglockhart.

The dissertation overview contains information on early pottery found at the Royal Edinburgh Asylum (Hospital) from Clyde Pottery and other sources.
More details can be found here.

A letters page contains relevant letters and minutes from meetings from the Royal Edinburgh Asylum to pottery retailers which shows how the Managers got really hacked off at not getting decent pottery and were driven to apply to the manufacturers direct. A digest is provided at the start of this page for your benefit...
There is also a page on crockery-related documents from Edinburgh City Poorhouse. Please click here. If you have details of:

the poorhouse at Craiglockhart,
or know of any pottery from any poorhouses or hospitals operating during the late nineteenth century
or fullish records of pottery marks from Clyde Pottery or Bell's Pottery,
any other relevant information
or are interested in more information on this project
you can contact Jo at jo@poorhouse.org.uk
